Services
Port agency, sea freight, customs clearance filed in house through Bayan, liner agency and land transport. Five lines run by one team at Sohar and Salalah.

Freight forwarding in Oman: sea freight, FCL and LCL

Land transport in Oman: terminal to premises and GCC overland

Liner agency in Oman: signed agent for NVOCC principals

Port agency in Oman: vessel attendance at Sohar and Salalah
Ruby Shipping Line does five things. We attend vessels calling at Omani ports, we book and move sea freight, we file customs declarations ourselves, we act as signed agent for the NVOCC principals we hold agency agreements with, and we move the cargo inland by road. There is no sixth item on that list, and the five are not five departments: the same people run them, out of Sohar, and often on the same file.
That matters at the joins. A container coming into Oman passes through a booking, a vessel, a discharge, a customs entry, a release and a move inland, and in the ordinary arrangement each sits inside a different company with its own file number. Most of the waiting a shipper pays for happens at those boundaries.
The five lines
Port agency is work done for the ship rather than for the cargo. When a vessel calls at Sohar or Salalah we are the party present for her: port and authority formalities, the documentation the call generates, crew changes, stores and husbandry. The customer is the owner, the operator or the charterer, and what they buy is a call that runs to schedule.
Freight forwarding is work done for the cargo. We book sea freight in and out of Oman, full container and consolidated, on the lanes our customers actually use: China and the wider East Asia trade, the Gulf, the Indian subcontinent including Karachi, Bandar Abbas, and East Africa. The booking, the equipment and the documents are ours to keep straight.
Customs clearance is the entry itself. Every consignment landing at Sohar or Salalah has to be declared to Omani customs before the terminal will release it. We prepare and file that declaration through Bayan, the Directorate General of Customs electronic single window, answer whatever customs asks, and follow it through assessment and any inspection to release.
Liner agency is representation. We are the signed agent in Oman for the NVOCC principals we have agreements with, we take bookings into their services, and we issue their bills of lading under their authority. We are the agent and they are the carrier.
Land transport is the road leg. We move cargo from the terminal to your premises and beyond, inside Oman and overland across the GCC borders, with our own trucks and with contracted hauliers. Cross border work runs under customs transit inside the GCC common customs territory, with the border formalities that go with it. The empty return is planned with the delivery, because the release does not stop detention: the empty going back to the nominated depot does.
Clearance in house, and what it changes
Of the five, customs is the line arranged differently from the usual pattern. The common arrangement is a forwarder who hands the entry to an outside broker. We file our own.
The difference shows up when customs asks a question. A tariff classification is a judgement rather than a lookup, and so is a customs value once a related party, an assist or an incoterm that moves freight cost in or out of the dutiable amount is involved. When that query lands, the person answering it here has the invoice, the packing list, the bill of lading and the booking open, because the same office produced them. In the split arrangement the question crosses a company boundary, waits while someone finds the file, and crosses back, and the container sits through it on the terminal's storage clock.
It also moves work earlier: the goods description, the origin document and any permit another authority has to issue get raised at booking instead of discovered at discharge.
What we do not do
We are not the carrier. We do not own or charter vessels and we are not the contracting carrier on your cargo. Where we issue a bill of lading it is our principal's bill, issued under their authority, and their terms, their time bar and their forum govern a claim on it. That is the accurate description of a liner agency, and easier to read here than on the back of the document.
We are also a young company. Ruby Shipping Line was registered in Muscat in 2025 and has no history to claim.
We are not the cheapest either, and we do not have the network of a global agency.
One line, or several
Any one of these stands on its own. A principal can appoint us for agency work and nothing else, an importer can send us the clearance while another forwarder carries the freight, and a box already cleared by someone else can be given to us for the road leg alone. We do not make a clearance file conditional on carrying the cargo.
Where they do combine, they combine on one file with one person answering for it. Our part of the chain is the vessel, the cargo, the clearance and the road. A vessel we attend can be carrying cargo booked through us, on a principal's bill we issued, cleared on an entry we filed and delivered inland on our own truck. The port gate was the one handover we could not close, and every other seam was already inside one company. It is closed now. Nothing is handed over in the middle, which is the real argument for using one company for several of them.
We work in English, Arabic and Persian. Persian is a working language on this coast and not a courtesy: on the Iran corridor the counterparty writes in it. Tell us the cargo, the route and roughly when it moves, and the reply comes from the person who would run the file. If what you need is not one of the five, you will be told so. Call +968 9672 1075 to 1079, five lines, send WhatsApp to +968 9367 4200, or write to [email protected]. The Muscat office is open Sunday to Thursday, 08:00 to 17:00.
