DEDE KORKUT: Sohar, Karachi, Nhava Sheva, Mundra

DEDE KORKUT works Sohar, then Karachi, then Nhava Sheva, then Mundra. We sell slots on it and the booking is taken in this office. We are not the carrier on it: the shipper receives the principal's bill of lading, signed by us as agent.

The port order, and which Indian port your consignee wants

The order of call is Sohar, then Karachi, then Nhava Sheva, then Mundra. Mundra is the last call, after Nhava Sheva.

What matters is that the rotation reaches both Indian ports on this lane. Nhava Sheva, the Jawaharlal Nehru port or JNPT, serves Mumbai and the western hinterland. Mundra is in Gujarat and serves the north and the northwest. A consignee clearing at one does not want the box at the other, because the entry and the move inland attach to the discharge port named on the bill of lading.

So the receiver decides which service you book. For Nhava Sheva this is the rotation, because the other one does not call there. Mundra cargo travels on either rotation, this one included, and FENG HAI 66 works Sohar, then Karachi, then Mundra if that is the one that suits. Karachi is on both, and we book whichever fits.

Buying space on this rotation

A slot is a confirmed reservation for your container on a named sailing, at an agreed rate, with two cutoffs: one for documentation and one for gating the box in. Miss one and the container rolls to the next sailing, a common reason a shipment is late.

What we owe is the booking and everything around it at this end: the equipment, the shipping instructions, a draft bill of lading to check before issue, and an answer when you ask where the box is. The carriage is not ours. Those obligations sit with the principal whose service it is.

Whose bill of lading you receive

The shipper receives the principal's bill of lading, signed by Ruby Shipping Line as agent. The principal is the contracting carrier: their terms are the terms on the reverse, their time bar decides how long you have, and the forum named on that bill decides where a claim is heard.

That decides who a claim goes against. One filed against the agent, or filed after the time bar has run because nobody worked out when it started, fails on procedure before anyone looks at the cargo. We name the principal on your booking before you ask, and liner agency sets out the relationship in full.

Full container or consolidated on this lane

Both work on this rotation, and the difference shows up at the discharge port rather than at Sohar. A full container is sealed at origin and leaves the terminal as a unit against the release. A consolidated shipment shares the box with other shippers' goods and has to be deconsolidated before the consignee's entry, which adds two handling operations. Ask for both prices: the volume at which one passes the other moves with the commodity. Freight forwarding covers the booking mechanics in general.

The documents that travel with the cargo

The bill of lading, the commercial invoice, the packing list, and a certificate of origin where the destination asks for one. The VGM declaration, the container's verified gross mass, is filed before loading, and dangerous goods carry their own documentation, declared to the principal before the booking is confirmed rather than after.

Names, descriptions, marks and weights have to agree across all of them and with what is manifested. They are read at both ends by people who were not there when the box was packed, and two of them disagreeing turns a documentary check into a physical one.

The Oman end of the file

Export cargo on this service is declared to Omani customs before it leaves. We file that entry ourselves through Bayan, the Directorate General of Customs single window, so the booking and the customs clearance are not in two companies with two versions of one file. Import cargo in the other direction is the same office.

The road leg is on that file too. Land transport is our own work, with our trucks and with contracted hauliers, so the truck is ordered against the release rather than after somebody has passed the file on. The empty return is planned with it: detention is not stopped by delivering the goods, it stops when the empty is back at the nominated depot. Demurrage and detention sets out the three clocks and who bills which.

Attending the ship at the berth is port agency, separate work on a separate appointment. Our part of the chain is the vessel, the cargo, the clearance and the road.

Get a rate

Send the commodity, the gross weight, the volume or piece count, the equipment, the discharge port and roughly when it moves, with the Incoterm if it is agreed. That is enough to price a slot. If you want the Omani entry or the road move as well, say so at the start and it stays one file.

Call +968 9672 1075 to 1079, five lines, message us on WhatsApp on +968 9367 4200, or write to [email protected]. The office is open Sunday to Thursday, 08:00 to 17:00, and the reply comes from the person who will run the file.
